Argentine Ant
Argentine ants are perhaps one of the most successful species of ants on the planet inhabiting a wide variety of countries and cities all over the world. Likely helped by humans, the spread of argentine ants across the globe means they’re also likely to make their way into your home.
Because argentine ants live in huge colonies, it’s not unusual for more than one nest to be located in or around your home. They’re often seen in homes after periods of heavy rainfall and will eat a wide variety of foods, but like ants they love anything that’s sweet.
Often we find argentine ant infestations in and around kitchen areas and often find more than one nest. If you have an ant problem in or around your home, talk with us today.
What are argentine ants?
Originating from Argentina and distributed all around the world, the argentine ant is widely found across Australia and invades households all over the country.
They are quite a small ant, ranging in size from 1.6-2.8mm in size and get into households through cracks and holes in walls, flyscreens and anywhere they can squeeze through.
One unique feature of the Argentine ant is the discovery of multiple colonies around the world that can be classified as a mega-colony as the genetic makeup of every colony around the world is almost identical and there is a distinct lack of aggression towards rival nests of the same species.
Pest control options for Argentine ants
Ants in general are notoriously difficult pests to eradicate from homes and houses in general and often store bought pest control solutions won’t get rid of colonies and you will find the ants back in your home days or weeks after the initial pest control solution is implemented.
